BDL Presents at ETHOS 2019

Every year, the nonprofit organization Engineers in Technical and Humanitarian Opportunities of Service (ETHOS) hosts an improved cookstove technology conference. This annual conference brings together leading cookstove researchers and practitioners from universities, research labs, NGOs, and governmental agencies from around the world. This year’s conference, held January 25th through 27th at Northwest University, was attended by over 100 academics, students, and cookstove industry figures hailing from nearly 50 organizations! Paul And Marco Ethos 2019

This year, Burn Design Lab made three separate presentations, highlighting progress in testing methodology and product development. Summer intern Molly Mazzucco presented on the applications of BDL’s novel Walk-Away Test Protocol. This method allows researchers to quantify the amount of time a user can leave their wood-burning stove unattended and come back to a profitable fire. Walk-away time is an important convenience factor for any stove project. In terms of product development, Paul Means showcased BDL’s initial improved shea roaster prototypes. Lastly, Paul and Van Dinh from Global Good, co-presented on the development of the Kuniokoa Turbo, a Tier-4 (very low emission) fan-powered wood stove. Thank you to all the presenters and organizers for making this event possible. We look forward to next year’s ETHOS conference!
