The staff at Burn Design Lab was excited for the opportunity to attend several events in and around the Vashon community this winter. In early December, BDL participated in the island-wide fundraising event, “Will Sing for Vashon.” Hosted by Vashon Events at the Open Space for Arts and Community, the event was a smashing success! Non-profits from across the island gathered for an open house info session while the festive and creative performances were the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. Thank you to all those in our community who donated or who provided the lively entertainment, and for supporting the Island’s non-profit community!

Later in December, BDL’s Executive Director Paul Means was invited to speak at the local Vashon Rotary chapter, as a part of their ongoing speaker series dedicated to combating climate change. Paul presented alongside Hands for Peacemaking Foundation Executive Director Jeffrey Hager. Burn Design Lab and the Hands for Peacemaking Foundation have worked together in the past, installing clean burning plancha stoves in Guatemala. The Rotarians were a generous, curious, enthusiastic audience, and we at BDL would like to thank Vashon Rotary for the opportunity to have presented! Vashon Island continues to be a nurturing and supportive community, and we at BDL are looking forward to another great year here.
